Citation Tools

A list of works cited is a list of sources you used for your report. It is the last page of your research paper

While writing your report, write down the titles of all the books, encyclopedias, articles, or websites you are using. Make sure to include a title, a sub-title if there is one, and also the author’s name, publisher, place of publication, and date of publication for each source. Include volume numbers and page numbers where applicable.

List sources (books, articles, websites, encyclopedias, and so on) in alphabetical order by authors' last names.

Alphabetize by title if your source doesn't have authors, or they are too numerous to list them all: websites, encyclopedias, films, etc.

Many online databases and online encyclopedias have a feature called "how to cite this article."

* Check with your teacher which format for the List of Works Cited your teacher prefers. The most popular are MLA, APA, and Chicago styles.
